Empowering Women's Autonomy
Srishti Institute
📍 Overview
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, women's healthcare in India faced severe setbacks, reversing years of progress in reproductive health, autonomy, and birth control. With support systems crumbling, the doctor-patient confidentiality concerns have reached unprecedented levels.
For my undergraduate pre-thesis, I was moved to explore this problem space after hearing about the personal experience of a loved one with the outcome of a service enabling the ideal abortion support experience and a position paper on contraception.
As a revisionary approach, I redesigned the original concept into a mobile application in aiding 3.41 million women and their confidantes to navigate the abortion journey with access to safe treatment resources and guidance from a confidential community.

A safe, empathetic, and virtual space to navigate the abortion process without judgement and anxiety
Interface Concept - For women in need of assistance and the Assist program ❤️🩹
Interface Concept - For women in need of assistance and the Assist program ❤️🩹
💯 Impact
Given the stigma and sociopolitical issues that impact abortion care in India, ChoiceSis is projected to cater to a Service Obtainable Market of 3.41 million women. These women are underserved due to the legal reforms and financial divide that affects public health centers.
🎬 Retrospective
Revisiting the original concept, I do believe that there is further scope to envision for enhancing ChoiceSis when it comes to user safety, anonymity, and trust, while balancing emotional support and user experience.
✌️A Dynamic Duo
ChoiceSis was my first two-person collaborative design project. It's important to work with someone who shares a vision for women's health, to not only redesign the UI but also ground the research with the right data and testing.
🤳🏾 Interface Revamp
Redesigning for iOS screens guided our service model research and business blueprinting, allowing for hands-on design development in a small team using the Apple design principles.
☣️ Navigating Past Judgment
We encountered resistance from healthcare experts and restrictive policies, complicating efforts to support women’s autonomy. Filtering out trolls and judgmental users is also essential for fostering a supportive environment.
