Overview
BMW Group aims to foster a culture of innovation across IT Tech Offices with their intrapreneurial initiatives (20% of their core competency) for incubation and acceleration.
With a caveat of using only existing resources, we had to scale the business impact of these initiatives by 10x.
With a multidisciplinary team, I developed a 3-stage blueprint with 8 modular physical and digital (phygital) touchpoints, to embed innovation in BMW's culture and operations over the next 5 years.

Heavy is the crown as I stepped up to be Project Manager.

As the sole Design Manager on the team, I proposed an Agile workflow. Given the project scale, I appointed a Co-Project Manager to help oversee the hands-on concept development.
Switching from individual contribution to leadership renewed my perspective of design functions, from the other side of the table.

With the our client discovery kickoff, I shed light on the key expectations from BMW.


The process began with clarifying our direction and building on our inquiry of what innovation means and how it connects to the North Stars of our project:

Streamline idea building sprints with SME updates, while maintaining Tech Radar compliance.

Focus on cross-organizational workflows, improving participation and mentor guidance.

Revamp current channels, making it easy to inform, engage, and recognize all stakeholders involved.

Methodical, data-driven progress over 20+ days.

With a timeline of 10 weeks, I worked with the UXR and Service Design teams to place a strong emphasis on research and insight translation, validated by interviews with executives and experts.
This reduced the margin of error and feedback cycles surrounding the development and delivery stage of the digital interfaces as well as blueprint and stakeholder maps, resulting in functioning prototypes of the deliverables supported by concise process documentation.

Conducting testing sessions helped me project relevant metrics that justified the ROI.

We collaborated closely with BMW's Greenville team and relevant SMEs (internal and external) on co-creation and validation sessions.

Working with BMW was a full circle moment.

As the proud owner of an X1 getting the opportunity to map their internal strategy, this project deepened my connection with BMW as a brand.
It was a bird's eye view into their enterprise thinking they practice to broaden the means of innovation beyond just automobiles.
👏 Design Leadership
Managing a team of 19 was challenging but rewarding. I realized my management style is delegative as I focused on granting agency to the team. This made task completion a whole lot easier.
⏭️ Client-first mindset
Understanding client needs before the team's prejudices kicks in is important. Our initial ideas were well-received but restricted by implementation timelines, which led to a few pivots.
🤷♀️ Why even innovate?
Taking any idea from "shower thought" to implementation is a reflection of time, passion, and incentive. Simplifying this was crucial as it required many people, processes and dollars to progress.

With the our client discovery kickoff, I shed light on the key expectations from BMW.


The process began with clarifying our direction and building on our inquiry of what innovation means and how it connects to the North Stars of our project:

Methodical, data-driven progress over 20+ days.

With a timeline of 10 weeks, I worked with the UXR and Service Design teams to place a strong emphasis on research and insight translation, validated by interviews with executives and experts.
This reduced the margin of error and feedback cycles surrounding the development and delivery stage of the digital interfaces as well as blueprint and stakeholder maps, resulting in functioning prototypes of the deliverables supported by concise process documentation.

Conducting testing sessions helped me project relevant metrics that justified the ROI.

We collaborated closely with BMW's Greenville team and relevant SMEs (internal and external) on co-creation and validation sessions.

Working with BMW was a full circle moment.

As the proud owner of an X1 getting the opportunity to map their internal strategy, this project deepened my connection with BMW as a brand.
It was a bird's eye view into their enterprise thinking they practice to broaden the means of innovation beyond just automobiles.
